The beauty: connecting, activities, & more
Every month I host an event called Melanin On Market to celebrate and support multicultural businessses! This month we focused on the beauty industry, entitled beauty and brains edition! We invited the best of the best in lashes/hair, makeup, and physical therapy as guest speakers, vendors, and sponsors! As guest arrived the first ten people also received a special gift from Cherné Altovise along with activities, games, and a special message to empower us to keep going! ,
I went with a subtle beauty and the beast theme with the decor, gifts, and notes using the red rose as my main inspiration. Everyone loves a good rose and just women poems have been written about them, they are a symbol of both love and strength, and unlike most flowers they can grow through anything- even concrete! Remind you of someone? A woman has the power to wear many hats and contrary to the standards society has put on us; it is our decision to be and do what we want.
Ice breakers are cool but one for the best ways to get people networking in my experience is through technology, games, and prizes! Each person received two cards one which had a scavenger hunt on the back to find and upload pics of people you just met, certain item, etc. and the other had a self activity that would be used later on in our speed networking exercise.
One of our activities of the night was to fill out the back of the back card (pictured above) to determine your goals and objectivites by establishing your "who, what, why's". Answering these questions truthfully is the perfect way to determine a good tagline, motto, or elevator pitch! Once everyone had there's we did a speed dating exercise so everyone could share there goals with each other because thinking goals and dreaming dreams is not enough. Our words are powerful so writing them down makes them real, and speaking them out loud holds you accountable!
And as the night progressed and new connections were made we all pledged to embrace the spirit of the Rose! No matter what environment we stem from we know that although our roses makes us stronger we don't have to use them against each other to win!
The Brains: The brains behind the business
The ultimate goal of Melanin On Market is to bring businesses, entrepreneurs, and the public together so we can become aware, stop using the excuse that we didn't know, and support one another- no excuses! And boy oh boy did our food and waitstaff sponsor of the night, Angel from Bangins Kitchen do that for me! The food was absolutely phenomenal and I had been searching for a caterer with great presentation like the pic above for sometime now! Her salmon cakes with romain lettuce garnished with lemon, jerk chicken wraps, and chocolate dip fruit trays and more quickly became the talk of the night!
Naee Diamond, owner of Diamonds Lashes, mua, and eyelash tech was there selling her amazing mink lashes and giving us a makeup tutorial specializing in color correcting!
Everyone is always in need of a little relaxation and Robyn, owner of Kneaded Relaxation and physical therapists was on site offering deep tissue and Swedish message along with selling her products!
Nothing completes the look of covers up "in between" bushy brows than a pair of sunglasses! We loved eyeconic eyewear' setup and different array of sunglasses that fit any face no matter what the age or gender.
Overall the night was very positive as we embraced and shared with one another . We want to give a special shout out to who all attended, Chris Both our photographer, underground exotic boutique and bangin kitchen for sponsoring! Each month we are bringing a different feel, theme, or focus so if you would like to be apart of the action sign up below.
